I
was born in Madrid, Spain to Missionaries Jack and Joy Loveday
and raised in a Christian home. My parents took me to church
every Sunday and Wednesday and made sure that I was at every
church oriented activity. They knew that just because they were
missionaries did not mean that I would be saved. The year I
turned eight was the first year I was able to attend kids camp.
I do not really remember what the theme of the camp was or what
the messages were about during the week but I do remember
thinking how boring it all was. I knew all the answers to every
question and all the Bible stories were all old news to me. In
the preaching at night they constantly talked about God's gift
of salvation and how without a Saviour our eternal destiny was
Hell. All they talked about was God and what a sinner I was. And
I knew that I was not a sinner.
I found out closer to the end of the week that my parents had
been praying for me that God would somehow break my heart and
show me what a sinner I was. It was not until the last day of
camp that Saturday morning that I finally realized that I was a
sinner and that without Christ I was helplessly on my way to
Hell. My counselor asked me “Sandy are you 100% sure that if on
the way back home you died in a car accident you would go to
heaven?” All I remember saying or screaming was NO! That is when
my counselor led me outside the cabin and showed me some verses
in the Bible and prayed the sinners’ prayer.
Later that year, I went forward at my local church and asked to
be baptized. I was baptized a year later after going through
some classes to assure me that I was indeed saved and that I
knew exactly what Baptistm meant. My parents were a huge factor
in my spiritual growth as well as my grandparents as they
encouraged me daily to keep in His Word and to stay faithful to
Him
At age 12, on furlough with my parents I surrendered my life to
God for him to use me for whatever he wanted. When I came back
from furlough, I was given several ministries such as teaching
and helping with the music in the services. I was also involved
with our kids ministries as well as teaching the little ones.
At age 16, during a Gainesville, Virginia mission’s conference
here in the States, the speaker talked about being a missionary
and going back to the field where you grew up. I knew that God
wanted me to full time worker in his service somewhere but I did
not know where. It was that night that I decided to become a
missionary indefinitely for him to whatever country he leaded
me.
I have graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Missions
with a music minor from the undergrad program at Baptist Bible
College in Springfield, Missiouri. I have been pursing my
Masters of Church Ministries but due to financial strain I have
not been able to complete that part of my education. On May 13,
2008 I was approved by BBFI as a TEAM Missionary to Spain. I
will be going to Spain as a short term missionary. After a year
I hope to return to the States and seek full time missionary
status to possibly return to Spain or any other country that the
Lord may lead me to.
