Prayer Letter
June 2008
Dear Praying Friends,
The lines are etched deeply
into her weathered face. Her stooped, frail body revealing what pain
and care had done in her 91 years. Dressed all in black, she had lost
her husband years before. Her name is Mary.
60 years old, plump and
talkative, she played the "adufe" (pronounced ah dew fee) an ancient
Portuguese musical instrument identical to the "timbrel" mentioned in
Psalm 150:4. As she listened to the gospel being presented to her and
willingly accepted the tract, she confessed she didn't even know what
a Bible was. Her name is Isabel.
They live in an ancient
village that still has the Roman battlements encircling the town. For
thousands of years, these villagers have lived their entire lives
never seeing a Bible, ignorant of the truth and dying in darkness.
Our hearts are broken for
these precious people. Please pray for Portugal, for those like Mary
and Isabel who live their lives in emptiness and despair, never
knowing of the Savior who died for them.
Plowing and planting,

Mark Hale

always ... for all
saints and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my
mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the Gospel."
