August 2003

The summer has come and gone and fall is here.  The fresh cool breeze that fills the air provides a renewed desire and a fresh opportunity to reach out with fervor to the multitudes that have returned from the summer holidays.  During the month of August the city of Athens is totally empty; one can drive through the city at any time without restrictions and get where you want to go in just a few minutes.  Now the city is once again crowded with over 51/2 million people: people are back to work and school, others shopping or just walking around or hanging out in the coffee shops.  My prayer and goal is to preach with more fervor, evangelize with more passion, and encourage the members of Athens Bible Baptist Church to reach out to their loved ones with greater boldness and share the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.

Pray for us as we reach out to the lost, that God will give us precious souls that will be saved from the religious idolatry that sends people to a burning hell, Matthew 10:28.  Already we have had a mass riot on the Omonia Square while we were passing out tracts.  A Greek monk came yelling and screaming at us, and took my Greek New Testament and while cursing “…Your___ Christ and Your ___NT” as he ripped it into shreds and threw it all over the street.  Others came to witness the disturbance and a big crowd gathered before we could take off.  These angry people cornered Vangeli and me when these two big guys came to our aid.  Using the physical force that we as Christians would not use against the priest, they got us off the hook.  Later we found out these fellows were Albanian Muslims and we had an opportunity to share the gospel with them.  What an irony, being persecuted by “Christians” and “saved” by Muslims.  The next day, one of Vangeli’s friends was taken to the police station for passing out tracts right in the same spot as we had been.  The only hope for this ungodly nation is the Lord Jesus Christ, pray with us for their salvation, John 3:36.

Poli and Cristina - click to enlarge Fall also brings in the new school year for our kids.  Poli was here visiting us for a couple of weeks and he is now back in Boston Baptist College, continue to pray for him, for his schooling and for his financial needs.  Cristina is working hard to finish her high school work early this year, please pray for her that she will accomplish her goals, and pray for her also for direction.  Timothy is now on his first year of high school and still very much into playing soccer. Timothy has finally decided to grow and he has passed Mom and Cristina!  I had never realized what joy this brings to a child; guess what his next goal is, Dad and then Poli. Thank you for your continuous prayers for our children.

Laboring together till Jesus Comes,
