Header for Easter Prayer Letter

April 2002

I Timothy 2:4 "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth…" The last Greek Emperor, Konstantine Palaiologos, was given a chance to escape through a secret pass under the Byzantine walls in the city of Konstantinopole when the Ottoman Muslims had just about slaughtered every Greek soldier in 1453.  However, he courageously responded, "No, I will fight with my men till my last breath."  And so it happened that the Muslims captured the capital of the Byzantine Empire that lasted for 1000 years.  Greece then went into what is called the darkest period of Greek history, being slaves for over 400 years to the Ottoman Muslims from Asia.  March 25, 1821 marks the beginning of the Independence of the Greece, where few brave men swore by the cross to take down the flag that waved with the half moon over the Acropolis and free Greece, and against all odds they succeeded and today Greece is free from Islam and the Ottoman occupation.  The slogan of 1821 was, "All Greeks to be set free."  Brethren, I pray every day for a spiritual revival to take place whereby, God our Savior "Who will have all men (Greeks) to be saved," will saved them from their pride and religious traditions, and "All Greeks to be set free."  Saved and set free by the blood shed on the cross.  Saved and set free by the resurrection power that we now celebrate.  Konstantine Palaiologos gave his life with his army and lost the war.  Makrigianis, Mavromichalis, Kolokotronis and many others gave their lives to free Greece from slavery and today they are enslaved by religion. But Jesus gave His life on the cross out of love, "Who will have all men to be saved…" and the power of his resurrection is still as powerful today as it was the day the angel said, "He is not Here, He is Risen." Greeks greet one another on this day,
He is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!

"Praise God for Betty, from Glyfada, that she is open to the gospel and has invited us for Bible Studies, pray for her salvation. "…who will have all man (Greeks) to be saved…" Praise God for the two unsaved young Greeks, Petro and Stathis, who came to our teen activity Saturday, "Who will have all man (Greeks) to be saved.  God was gracious to send us the Crabtrees to take over the work for 6 months for us to come home on furlough on May 3rd.  Pray for the people of Athens Baptist Bible Church that they will stay faithful and committed to the work.  Pray for the Crabtrees as they embark in language study and for them to get a Visa extension.  Pray for a safe flight, and safety on the highways of America.  Pray for God to raise up faithful servants to help us in this battle for, "all men (Greeks) to be saved…"
