Jerry & Ruthmary Abbott
Serving with Manna Worldwide
Jerry
was raised attending Southern Baptist churches. He was saved in 1977
at the age of 23. Shortly after salvation he received a call to be
a missionary. He graduated from
Baptist Bible College,
Springfield,
MO in 1983. That same year the Abbotts moved
to Arkansas to work on staff with Pastor Don Elmore, with the goal of
planting a new church in the state. The following year, the Liberty
Baptist Church was begun in Siloam Springs, AR. Jerry pastored this
church until mid-1990 when he resigned in order
to open the field of Hungary for the BBFI. Jerry's hobbies include
reading, playing guitar, and computers.
Ruthmary
was exposed to several Christian faiths as a child. She received
Christ as her Savior in 1976. It was then that God called her to
be a missionary. Her response was, "Lord, how can I be a missionary
when my husband isn't even saved?" The Lord's answer
was, "You just need to do what I ask and let Me take care of the
problems!" True to His Word, a year later Jerry was saved.
When they moved to Springfield, Ruthmary was busy with classes and
taking care of a rapidly growing family. Arriving with one
child, four years later they had four children! After moving to
Arkansas the Lord blessed the Abbotts with 3 more children,
completing their family of 4 boys and 3 girls. Ruthmary stayed
active as a mother, homemaker, and pastor's wife. Ruthmary plays
piano and loves stitchwork, reading, and music.
Jerry and Ruthmary
served in Hungary from 1991 to 2005 as Missionaries with the Baptist Bible
Fellowship International. In October 2005 they changed their status from
BBFI Missionary to Affiliated Missionary-MANNA.
